Papers of composer Francis Richter (1888-1938), including scorebooks for Richter's compositions, recordings of musical performances by Richter, personal papers, and biographical materials. Richter was a blind composer, pianist, and organist who lived in Portland, Oregon, and in Minnesota.

Sheet music and lyrics for a song by Bertha Slater Smith (1875-1936) of Portland, Oregon, "My Old Home in Oregon," and lyrics for Smith's song "Land of Mine." Smith was president of the Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers, and coined the Portland Rose Festival slogan, "For You a Rose in Portland Grows."

Oral history interview with Lawrence Leighton Smith conducted by Linda S. Dodds on May 12, 1980. Smith was a pianist and conductor for many symphonies around the country, including the Oregon Symphony from 1973 to 1980.

This collection reflects efforts by the Society of Oregon Composers to gather a library of Oregon musical compositions, and to promote and support musical composition in the state. The collection consists primarily of musical scores for voice, piano and strings (1902-1941), with other materials relating to the music library, membership in the society, and competitions.
