Papers of Erastus A. Smith (1868-1950) relating to his military and religious careers, including certificates, letters of recommendation, and reminiscences. Smith was a Baptist minister from Oregon who preached at churches in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, and who served in the Oregon National Guard in the mid-1890s and in the 2nd Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Spanish-American War.

Collection includes correspondence with family, 1898-1907, regarding army life and conditions in Manila, Philippines; rosters and booklets describing the Oregon Volunteer Infantry, 1898; and newspaper clippings regarding the Spanish-American War, 1898-1899.

Stevens, Battery E, 65th Coast Artillery Corps., February 22, 1918-January 30, 1919, regarding his experiences as an American soldier in France during World War I. Stevens (1898-1979) was a native of Portland, Oregon. He became a partner in the insurance company Stevens & Brewster, served as the president of the Oregon Association of Insurance Agents, and was a member of many civic organizations.
