Abstract

Oral history interview with Clark Hansen conducted by Jim Strassmaier and Michael O’Rourke on December 8, 1989, and October 31, 2000. Hansen discusses his experiences in Oregon as a ranger with the U.S. Forest Service during the 1970s, and talks about a group of members of Charles Manson’s cult, the Manson Family, who hid in the Bagby area during the summer of 1976.

Abstract

Short history of Summer Lake Hot Springs, supplemented with a biographical sketch of James "Blackie" Parker (1924-2015) and photographs of Parker's wood carvings. Summer Lake Hot Springs is a hot springs resort near Paisley, Oregon, that has operated since the early 20th century. James "Blackie" Parker stayed at the hot springs following an injury in 1963, and made numerous wood carvings, some of which were still present at Summer Lake Hot Springs as of 2020.
