Dunn was a bankruptcy lawyer in Portland, Oregon, and served as a bankruptcy judge on the Oregon Bankruptcy Court from 1998 to 2017. He also played clarinet in the Salem Symphony from 1977 to 1982, and in the Portland Opera orchestra from 1982 to 2008.
