Broadside of Western Defense Command instructions to all persons of Japanese ancestry

Abstract

The collection consists of a broadside detailing the provisions of Civilian Exclusion Order No. 46 issued by General J. L. Dewitt on May 6, 1942. The order directs all persons of Japanese ancestry in Clackamas and eastern Multnomah counties to be evacuated to Civil Control Stations for forced incarceration during World War II.

Abstract

The Oregon Committee on Conservation of Cultural Resources was created as a unit within the Oregon State Defense Council. It sought to protect public and private materials and papers of cultural, historical, and scientific importance from wartime pressures and destruction. Collection includes correspondence regarding the establishment of the committee and its activities, including questionnaires; minutes of meetings; and ephemera.
