Benjamin Branson lived in Sheridan, Oregon, and was the first president of the Dayton-Sheridan narrow gauge railroad. Collection includes an autobiographical sketch, including a short account of an overland journey to Oregon in 1848 and gold-mining activities in Yreka, California, and Jacksonville, Oregon; a manuscript diary, February 19-June 4, 1872; and papers regarding Branson's estate.

Abstract Typescript diary of Elias Henry Brodie, Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion, 14th U.S. Infantry, 1865-1896, regarding his service in the military. The journal was continued after his death by his son, Edward Everett Brodie. Elias Henry Brodie (1826-1896) entered the United States Army at age 13 as a bugler and served in the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, and the Indian Wars. Abstract

Papers of Amos Burg (1901-1986), including diaries, travel logs, notes, correspondence, published materials, and ephemera. Burg was born in Portland, Oregon, and lived there until after World War II, when he moved to Alaska. He traveled on multiple rivers in North America, and was a writer, photographer and filmmaker who worked for the National Geographic Society, the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Erpi Classroom films, and later the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Abstract

Papers of W. W. Carl (1869-1938), a carpenter and farmer who lived in the area of Carlton, Oregon. The bulk of the papers consists of diaries that Carl kept from 1897 to 1905. Other papers include information about materials used for buildings he helped to construct; descriptions of land that his mother, Mary J. Carl, willed to him; and transcriptions of his diary entries, made by his great-grandson, John A. Beutler.
