Papers of Lewis A. McArthur (1883-1951) and his family, particularly papers relating to research on Oregon place names. McArthur was a historian who published Oregon Geographic Names in 1928. He published a second edition of the work in 1944, and had completed most of the work for the third edition before his death.

McArthur, including correspondence and documentation relating to Oregon Geographic Names; correspondence and records relating to the Historic Columbia River Highway; and papers relating to other historic sites and historic preservation efforts. McArthur (1917-2018) published the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh editions of Oregon Geographic Names, and was active in historic preservation.
