Abstract

This oral history interview with Norm Costa was conducted by Stephanie Munly and Ruben Reynaga from November 13-20, 2000, for the Gay and Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest (GLAPN). Costa came out as gay in 1947 and moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1958. He was a gay rights activist and worked with local health departments on HIV prevention efforts.

Abstract Document regarding the sale from Amelia Cowaniah and Charles Cowaniah to Thomas Stephens and James Terwilliger of four-fifths of title for 640 acres in Multnomah County, Oregon. Amelia Cowaniah (later Amelia Clemens) was the daughter of William Johnson, whose land at what would become Portland, Oregon, was claimed by Elizabeth Caruthers Thomas and her son Finice Caruthers after Johnson's death. Amelia Cowaniah unsuccessfully sued to be regarded as the rightful title holder to the land...

Ralph Penniwell Cowgill (born 1880) served as an engineer for the Oregon State Game Commission, president of the Oregon Game Protective Association, and in the Oregon Legislature. Collection includes correspondence and reports, 1922-1935, regarding his work with those organizations, as well as the Oregon Reserve Corps and National Guard, with emphasis on fish husbandry and river pollution.

Black and white photographs and cyanotypes, primarily in two albums. Scenes in one album relate to work by the U.S. Geological Survey in the Pacific Northwest from 1898-1900, particularly in Idaho; locations include Coeur d'Alene Lake, Spokane, Mount Adams, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mount Hood. The second album includes photographs of an irrigation project near Medford, Oregon.
