Scope and Contents

This collection contains 20 photographic prints of the Yeon and Pelton Logging Company's camp in Hudson, Oregon, circa 1903, and shows general views of the camp, Rinearson Slough, the incline logging railroad with its specialized machinery, and logging personnel. Several other photographs show a street view of the Columbia County town of Mayger, Oregon, and its saloon, circa 1910. All photographs were taken by J. F. Ford, a Portland photographer.

Historical note

In 1901, the Yeon and Pelton Logging Company bought out Peterson Logging, which had owned land in Hudson, Oregon, a logging settlement about three miles from the town of Rainier in Columbia County. By 1902, the camp boasted the only incline logging railroad on the west coast. Yeon and Pelton sold the Hudson camp to the Portland Lumber Company in 1906.

Mayger, Oregon, is an unincorporated area eight miles northwest of Clatskanie, originally the site of the Mayger Logging Company. It was a small town in the early 1900s.
