Historical Note

The Brooklyn Home was a convalescent and maternity home operated by Nila Merrill and Clinton Merrill at 569 East 8th Street, in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, from approximately 1920 to 1937. The facility provided treatments by Christian Science practitioners for health issues excluding contagious diseases. The Christian Science denomination promoted spirituality as an alternative to conventional medicine.
