Historical Note

Star Drilling Machine Company opened its Portland, Oregon, plant in 1908 at 550 Clinton Street. Originating in Akron, Ohio, Star Drilling designed and manufactured well drilling rigs using steam and gas engines, and expanded its operations to the Pacific Northwest during the region’s manufacturing boom. The Portland plant was sold in 1953; it subsequently changed its name to Stardrill and relocated to 1727 SE 11th Avenue.
