Jamie G. Partridge papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of the papers of Jamie G. Partridge, an activist from Portland, Oregon. The bulk of the collection reflects Partridge's involvement with labor, social justice, and socialist causes and organizations. These include administrative records, flyers, newsletters, bulletins, correspondence, and Partridge's handwritten notes for organizations including the Portland chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, Communities and Postal Workers United (CPWU), the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 82, Portland Jobs with Justice, and the International Socialist Organization (ISO). A significant portion of the International Socialist Organization records consists of bulletins and articles from the Socialist Worker with handwritten annotations by Partridge.
Other organizations and causes represented in the collection include multiple organizations based at Portland State University that Partridge was involved with; Labor Radio on KBOO, which Partridge programmed; the Portland Labor Committee on Central America and the Caribbean; and the gay liberation movement. The collection also includes issues of Rainbow News, a newspaper for the Oregon Rainbow Coalition that Partridge edited, and photographs taken for Rainbow News. Personal papers in the collection include writings by Partridge; articles and other materials referencing Partridge; photographs; and a scrapbook of photographs, clippings, correspondence, and ephemera from the 1950s through the 1970s.

Conditions Governing Access
Sign-in sheets, signup sheets, contact lists, and petition forms in Boxes 12 and 13 are restricted until 2045. All other materials are open for research.

The Oregon Historical Society owns the materials in the Research Library and makes available reproductions for research, publication, and other uses. The Society does not necessarily hold copyright to all materials in the collections. In some cases, permission for use may require seeking additional authorization from copyright owners.
Biographical Note
James "Jamie" Gilbert Partridge was born in Berkeley, California, in 1949. His family later moved to Washington state and then to Lake Oswego, Oregon. He attended Dartmouth College, and dropped out in 1968. The next year, he moved to Portland, Oregon. He earned a Medical Lab Tech certification from Portland Community College, and studied at Portland State University. He was involved with six labor unions, including the Teamsters, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), and the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). From 1984 to 2011, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a contributor to the Socialist Worker publication, an organizer for Communities and Postal Workers United, and a programmer for KBOO, a community radio station in Portland.

Materials are largely arranged in original order listed by Partridge at the time he donated them to the Oregon Historical Society Research Library.

Researcher access to negatives in Box 1, Folder 8 is limited for preservation purposes. To inquire about viewing the negatives, contact library staff.

Processing Information
During processing, materials were removed from original file folders, pocket folders, and envelopes and placed in archival folders for preservation purposes. Original folders and envelopes with contextual information on them were either photocopied or placed within the archival folder. Materials restricted for privacy reasons, including petition forms, contact lists, signup sheets, and sign-in sheets with phone numbers and e-mail addresses, were separated into Boxes 12 and 13 with notations on each folder to indicate their original locaton in the collection.
