"The way it was" photographic collection

Scope and Contents

Collection consists of 58 black and white photographs (some drawings), from approximately 1858-1972, used in research and production of the book "The Way it Was: A Kaleidoscopic Look at Early Theatre in the Oregon Country and a View of the Changing Pattern of Theatre in the Early Years of the Twentieth Century into the Present Day" by Cecil Matson, published in 1988. Subjects depicted in the collection include performers, producers, and directors, as well as theaters in Ashland, McMinnville, Portland, Oregon City, and Roseburg. People represented in the collection include, among others, Izetta Jewel Miller, Julia Dean Hayne, Verna Felton, Mayo Methot, Florence Grimes, Annie Pixley, Helen Kleeb, Calvin Heilig, George L. Baker, and Mabel Edgett Baker.
