Scope and Contents

Collection consists of 10 black and white copy prints, circa 1896-1930, most of them portraits depicting members of the Bogle family, including: Anna Louise Logan, Waldo Bogle, America and Richard Bogle, Bonnie Thomas Bogle, Waldo Bogle, Jr., John Logan, Jr., and Grace Marie Logan. Also included is a photograph of the Bogle home in Walla Walla, Washington, and photograph of a group of women, which is identified as "Rosebud Club (Kathryn Hall Bogle baby shower in East Portland, 1930)."

Biographical note

Richard A. Bogle (originally from the West Indies) arrived in the Oregon Territory in 1851, when he was 16. He moved to California and became a barber working with Nathaniel Berber. Bogle returned to Oregon and opened a barber shop in Roseburg. He married America Waldo in 1863, and they eventually had eight children. Soon after, Richard and America Bogle moved to Walla Walla in the Washington Territory, where Richard Bogle earned his livelihood as a barber. The Bogles also became successful and wealthy ranchers, and were among the founders of the Walla Walla Savings and Loan Association. Two of the Bogle sons moved to Portland, including Arthur Bogle, who had a barber shop in the early 1900s. Descendants of the family include Richard Waldo Bogle, Sr., and his son, Richard Waldo Bogle, Jr., of Portland.

Abstract

Small collection of black and white copy prints, primarily portraits of members of the Bogle family. Richard A. Bogle, originally from the West Indies, operated a barber shop in Roseburg, Oregon. He married America Waldo in 1863, and they moved to Walla Walla in the Washington Territory, where Richard Bogle continued to work as a barber, and where the family also became successful ranchers. Richard and America Bogle had eight children, some of whom later lived in Portland, Oregon.
