Scope and Contents

The collection consists of the records of Friends of Henry and Ramona, a group that raised funds to establish the Beverly Clearly Sculpture Garden in Grant Park, Portland, Oregon. Materials include administrative and financial records, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, newsletters, ephemera, and a poster for the Portland Civic Theatre production of "Beverly Cleary's Ramona Quimby." In addition, the collection includes several folders of records and memorabilia gathered by group members Rebecca Macy, Chris Poole-Jones, and Jan Wheeland; and materials relating to author Beverly Cleary and sculptor Lee Hunt.

Administrative History

Friends of Henry and Ramona was an organization established in 1991 in Portland, Oregon. Its purpose was to raise funds to install public artwork honoring children's author Beverly Cleary (1916-2021), who had grown up in Northeast Portland. The Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden, featuring work by sculptor Lee Hunt, was dedicated in Portland's Grant Park on October 13, 1995; Cleary spoke at the dedication.
