Scope and Contents

Three photograph albums containing tintypes and card photographs, as well as a small number of loose photographs, circa 1880-1917, depicting members of the Clifford Kittredge Read family and associated families. Nearly all the images are professional studio portraits, and many of the people in the photographs are identified. They include: Ross Read, Viola Read, Clifford Kittredge Read, Clifford Webster Read, Virgil Henry Read, Ethel Read McCulloch, Nettie Read Downing, Jessie Read Porter, Lloyd A. Read, Letha Read Williams, Sarah I. Read, Martha S. Thompson Read, Elizabeth Nancy Read, Silas W. Read, John F. Read, Lydia Darby Read, Eva Read Foland, and Lucy Read Neal.

Biographical note

The Read family came to Turner, Oregon, from Illinois in 1852. Grandson Lloyd A. Read (1890-1989) was a Clackamas County assessor and Port Orford businessman. Clifford W. Read (1900-1991) was an engineer and volunteer worker in the Oregon Historical Society map collection.
