Scope and Contents

Four albums containing black and white photographs, circa 1890-1910, of views in Colorado; in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California; in Reno, Nevada; in Kansas; and in Montana, including some portraits. The albums were designated Album 266, Album 267, Album 311, and Album 681 by Oregon Historical Society Research Library staff.

Album 266 contains 97 photographs, circa 1890-1910, of views in Colorado, including Cotopaxi, Manitou Springs, Victor, Pueblo, Royal Gorge and Walsenburg. Subjects include the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, the Grandview copper mine, the Independence Mine, the Klein hotel in Walsenburg, and railroad accidents.

Album 267 contains 46 photographs, 1890-1900, depicting views primarily in the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. Subjects include: hotels near the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, fishing in Long Beach, California, buildings in Reno, Nevada, and a flood in Trinidad, Colorado.

Album 311 contains photographs dating to circa 1890-1910, primarily depicting mines and train depots in Colorado. Views include Cotopaxi, Routt County, Cuchara, Walsenburg, Spanish Peaks, and some views of Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Wichita, Butler, Montana and Kansas City, Missouri. Some portraits are among the images.

Album 681 contains 88 photographs taken and collected by Jonathan M. Campbell, dating from 1901-August 1903. The photographs include snapshots of northern California, including Monterey, Carmel, and San Francisco; Salt Lake City, Utah; and various towns and mountains in Colorado. Also included are images of President William McKinley's visit to Monterey in 1901 and of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. Some of the California photographs were taken by F. S. Berry.
