Scope and Contents

Drawings by David Rock, 1977-1978, many of which were created for an unknown exhibit for the Oregon Historical Society, probably at the State Capitol in Salem. Many of the drawings are in ink; some are in pencil. They include portraits of historical figures, as well as depictions of Oregon places and landscapes, wildlife and livestock, pioneer scenes, and activities. Portraits include Peter French, Captain Levi Scott, Chief Joseph, Jesse Applegate, Sarah Winnemucca, John Jacob Astor, Colonel Edward Baker, and Henry Villard. Landscapes and locations depicted include Anthony Lakes; the view from Ecola Point; the Oregon Caves National Monument; Malheur; Mount Hood; Pelton Dam; the Owyhee River Canyon; the Rogue River Canyon; Willamette Falls; a Baker County ghost town; and a street in a Columbia County town. Other subjects include a group of Paiute people; Basque stonemasons; bridges; ranching and agriculture; ships and boats; covered wagons; and mining and panning for gold.
