Biographical note
John Marcus Freeman (1843-1923) came to Oregon in 1858 at the age of 14. He worked for wholesale grocers Allen & Lewis for more than 40 years. Freeman's aunt was married to Captain John E. Couch and he was also nephew to Captain George H. Flanders.
