Scope and Contents

The collection consists of five exhibition catalogs and a photo book relating to Blackfish Gallery, a cooperative artists' gallery in northwest Portland, Oregon. Three of the catalogs are for special anniversary exhibitions held in 1999, 2009, and 2019; these include information about the gallery's history as well as the artwork displayed. The other two catalogs are an image catalog and a statement catalog from the 2007 exhibition "The Pacifist Potential: Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Peace." The photo book, published in 2015, consists of photographs taken by Victor Bloomfield that show the gallery's members and the gallery space.

Historical Note

Blackfish Gallery was founded in 1979 as a cooperative artists' gallery in Portland, Oregon. A significant number of its founders were art school graduates. Originally located at 325 NW 6th Avenue, it moved to 420 NW 9th Avenue in early 1987.
