At the top of the typescript is the following: "Extracts from the 'Journal of a voyage across The Continent of North America From Astoria The Pacific Fur Companys prinicipal Establishment on the Columbia, To the City of New York kept by Robert Stuart.' [Taken from a typewritten copy in the New York Public Library, New York City. 1920.]"
