Administrative History

The Derthick Club was founded as the Derthick Music and Literary Club by a group of women in Oregon City, Oregon. The club was named for Wilbur Derthick, whose music appreciation lectures were studied by the group's founding members. The club hosted programs by guest artists, and donated records of classical music to the Oregon City Public Library. The club also held a musical scholarship competition for high school seniors. The Derthick Club disbanded in 2014, giving its remaining funds to the Portland Youth Philharmonic and the Oregon Music Teachers Association, Portland Area. At the time it disbanded, the Derthick Club was the oldest music club west of the Mississippi River.
