Scope and Contents

The collection consists of team photographs and commemorative publications relating to the Portland Beavers, a baseball team in Portland, Oregon, all of which were collected by William C. Drake. The team photographs span from 1947 to 1969. The publications are the 1949 through 1956 issues of "Rollie Truitt's Scrapbook," an annual record book about the Beavers compiled by Arthur Roland "Rollie" Truitt, who was an announcer for Beavers games; some of these include inscriptions from Truitt to Drake.

Biographical Note

William Charles Drake was born in 1915 in Kansas City, Missouri, and came to Portland, Oregon, in the 1920s. He worked as a technician for Pacific Northwest Bell until retiring in 1975. He also worked as an announcer for local sporting events. He later operated the pro shop at the Willamette Racquet Club in Clackamas, Oregon. He married Clara Goetten in 1939; the couple had two children. Drake died in 2000.

Abstract

Memorabilia of Portland, Oregon, baseball team the Portland Beavers, collected by William C. Drake (1915-2000), namely team photographs and issues of the publication "Rollie Truitt's Scrapbook." Drake was a technician for Pacific Northwest Bell and later operated the pro shop at the Willamette Racquet Club in Clackamas, Oregon; he also worked as an announcer for sports events in the Portland area.
