Scope and Contents

Photographs taken by general contractor Bill Devlin during remodeling work on the Canterbury Castle (or Canterbury House) at 2910 Canterbury Lane, Portland, Oregon. Collection consists of 23 color snapshots, including duplicates, showing the exterior and remodeling work being done on interior. Also included is letter from Devlin with historical background about the building and its features, and about the work he did on it.

Historical note

Canterbury Castle was built in Portland, Oregon, in the style of a medieval castle by J. O. Frye from 1929-1931. Bill Devlin, a general contractor in the Portland area, performed a series of remodeling and restoration projects on the Canterbury Castle from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. The building was demolished in 2009.
