Binger Hermann papers
Scope and Contents
Papers of an Oregon congressman and U.S. General Land Office commissioner. The collection consists of a small group of correspondence relating to Binger Hermann's historical writings; two land patent documents from 1868 and 1897; news clippings; research notes; and typescripts of some of Hermann's historical writings. Writings include: "The Baltimore Colony and pioneer recollections," "The race for an empire and tales of the Pacific northwest," "The story of an eventful life," and "The story of a busy life."

Biographical note
Born in Lonaconing, Maryland, Binger Hermann settled in Coos County, Oregon in 1859. He was elected to the Oregon House in 1866 and served one term, followed by one term in the state Senate. He represented Oregon in Congress from 1885-1897, then served as commissioner of the General Land office from 1897-1903, before again serving as a congressman from 1903-1907.
