Scope and Contents

Collection consists of four engravings from taken from "Troisième Voyage de Cook," a French edition (Paris, Hôtel de Thou, Rue des Poitevins, 1785) of James Cook's "A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean." The engravings are by Robert Bénard from drawings by John Webber and depict Native people of Unalaska, as well as canoes and headwear. The engravings are Plate 48, a portrait of an Native man, titled "Un Homme De Oonalashka"; Plate 49, a portrait of a Native woman, titled "Une Femme de Oonalashka"; Plate 56, depicting two types of headwear, titled "Chapeaux des Naturels D'Oonalashka"; and Plate 60, two scenes of men paddling canoes, titled "Canots d'Oonalashka." Titles in French.
