Scope and Contents
This oral history interview with Windsor D. Calkins was conducted by Monica D. LaRosa in Eugene, Oregon, from March 25 to May 8, 2008, as part of the United States District Court Oral History Project. The interview was conducted in three sessions, and a transcript is available.
In this interview, Calkins discusses his family background and early life in Eugene, talks about his education at the University of Oregon and at Willamette University Law School, and discusses practicing law with his father, Windsor Calkins, in Eugene. He speaks at length about his father’s career. He talks about his marriage to Judy VanCleave, talks about their family life, and speaks about medical malpractice cases he worked on.

Biographical note
Windsor Dean Calkins was born in Eugene, Oregon, in 1944. He was educated at the University of Oregon and Willamette University Law School, and was admitted to Oregon State Bar in 1971. In 1975, he and Judy VanCleave were married. He practiced law at the law firm of Calkins and Calkins in Eugene until 2011. He also served as Commissioner on Uniform State Laws, and as Division Chief of the National Conference on Uniform State Laws. He died in 2018.
