Joseph Hornung papers
Scope and Contents
Papers of Joseph Hornung include emigration documents from Germany, 1872, in German, with translation by Carl F. Nitz; a certificate of membership in the Vigilance Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 of the Portland Fire Department; citizenship documents, 1884 and 1919; and a certified copy, dated 1919, of an 1888 marriage return for Joseph and Louise Wilhelm. Also included are items related to Hornung's service at the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, including documents from May 1884 and November 1885 appointing Hornung to first assistant keeper, acting keeper, and then keeper of the lighthouse; and a letter to Hornung concerning repairs to the landing bridge.
