Photocopy, made in October 1979 by the Oregon Historical Society from an original loaned by Brenda Hood, of a manuscript school paper. The title page reads: "The Prairie Flower / December 18th, 1974 / Editress / Mary E. Lacey." The paper, 20 pages, includes reminiscences and chapter titles such as "Bad habits" and "My dear pupils."

Biographical note
Mary E. Lacey was born in Iowa in 1858. In 1873, her family emigrated to Oregon, living near Salem and then Independence. In 1878, Mary Lacey married Theodore Herren, who had been a neighbor when her family lived near Salem. The couple moved to a farm in Yamhill County, and they had two children. Mary Herren contracted tuberculosis, and she died in 1887.
