Scope and Contents
This oral history interview with Michael Gutwig was conducted by James Louderman from May 11 to July 14, 2001, as part of the Oregon Labor Oral History Program, which collects oral histories of individuals who have advocated for working people of Oregon, including public figures, union members, and workers. The interview was conducted in five sessions.
In this interview, Gutwig discusses his early journalism career, his marriage to Lori Clark, and his career as managing editor of the Northwest Labor Press. He also shares the history of the Northwest Labor Press. He also talks about the relationship between labor and the Democratic Party.

Biographical note
Michael Gutwig was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1956. He was editor for the Parkrose High School newspaper, and studied journalism at Mount Hood Community College. In 1981, he became the sports editor for the Central Oregonian newspaper in Prineville. That same year, he and Lori Clark were married; they later had two children. In 1986, he joined the staff of the Northwest Labor Press. He retired at the end of 2021.
