Digitized papers of and relating to Joel Palmer (1810-1881) of Dayton, Oregon, and his family, including correspondence, diaries, government documents, and property records. The majority of papers relate to Palmer's roles as commissary general during the Cayuse War, as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the Oregon Territory in the 1850s, and as an Indian agent at the Siletz Reservation in the early 1870s. Family papers include correspondence of Palmer's wife, Sarah Ann Palmer (1815-1891), and of Palmer's descendants.
