John F. Miller papers
Summary
Two digitized documents from a small collection of papers relating to John F. Miller (1825-1901), an early emigrant to Oregon. Miller was elected as a representative in the Oregon Territorial Legislature in 1853; led a volunteer company to fight Native peoples of the Rogue River Valley that same year; was briefly an Indian agent in southern Oregon; and fought with the U.S. Army in the Modoc War in 1873. The digitized documents are a muster roll for the company of mounted volunteers that Miller led in 1853, and an 1886 quitclaim deed transferring property in Salem, Oregon, from Miller and his wife to their daughter, Ianthe.
