10 cord plant: plans, sections, 1907
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of architectural, engineering, and mechanical drawings depicting buildings and machinery used for the distillation of wood products on an industrial scale. The drawings are dated 1907 and are stamped with a seal indicating that they were produced by Rolof Jürgensen of the Technical Office for Chemical Industry in Prague. Some are stamped with the seal of Hegardt and Brown, a Portland, Oregon-based engineering firm associated with the civil engineer Gustave B. Hegardt that held the Pacific Coast rights to Jürgensen's patent. Most of the drawings are ink on linen with watercolor highlights, and some are brownline reprographics printed on linen or paper.
This set of drawings may be associated with the Hawley Pulp and Paper Company in Oregon City, Oregon; it came into the possession of an employee of Publishers Paper Company, which operated the mill after the Hawley company's closure. However, it is unknown whether Hawley constructed a wood distillation plant as part of its Willamette Falls mill.
