Scope and Contents
Tape 7, Side 1, through Tape 8, Side 2. In the fourth interview session, conducted on November 6, 2001, Schoppert discusses the difference between Republican and Democratic views on labor issues. He talks about his involvement in organizing sub-contractors and ambulance drivers to join ATU Local 757, and organizing transit workers outside Portland, as well as in Washington. He speaks further about lawyers participating in union negotiations. He talks about his election as vice president of ATU International in 1972, and about his experience being re-elected while hospitalized, shortly before the interview.
