Scope and Contents
Tape 5 Side 1, through Tape 6, Side 1. In the third interview session, conducted on October 30, 2001, Schoppert discusses his marriage to Wanda E. Burkett. He speaks about his relationship with Al McCready, editor of the Oregonian newspaper in Portland, and Oregon State Representative Connie McCready. He describes the creation of TriMet, and speaks further about the pension benefit he negotiated for ATU Local 757 members. He talks about using the threat of a strike as a negotiating tactic, shares his thoughts about involving lawyers in collective bargaining, and shares his memories of a strike at the Oregonian in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
