Tape 3, Side 1, through Tape 4, Side 2. In the second interview session, conducted on October 23, 2001, Schoppert speaks further about his early life. He speaks about his reasons for being a Democrat, and about working with both Republican and Democratic politicians to pass labor-friendly legislation. He speaks further about how Portland’s streetcar lines were shut down. He discusses how he became business representative for ATU Local 757, describes his first experience lobbying the Oregon State Legislature, and speaks extensively about the legislation he worked on, which led to the formation of TriMet. He discusses the pension plan he negotiated for ATU Local 757 members.
