Scope and Contents
Tape 5, Side 2, through Tape 7, Side 1. In the third and final interview session, conducted on March 1, 1993, Ashbaugh discusses his work as a mediator and arbitrator for the state of Oregon. He talks about anti-labor sentiment, about the importance of workers having union representation, and about corporate personnel management practices. He discusses reasons why corporations refuse to pay higher wages to their employees. He speaks further about the merger that created UFCW Local 555. He shares his reasons for leaving Local 555 to work as a mediator for the state.
