Scope and Contents
Tape 6, Side 1, through Tape 7, Side 2. In the third and final interview session, conducted on March 17, 1999, Williams discusses the meaning of an "endangered" designation for salmon. He talks about the life cycle of salmon and about how dams disrupt that cycle. He speaks extensively about his work with Salmon Corps. He discusses how environmental groups have changed their approach to lobbying legislators since the 1970s, and talks about the state of Columbia River Gorge environmental activism at the time of the interview. He discusses his participation in environmental protests, which twice resulted in his arrest, and describes his relationship with Oregon media outlets. He closes the interview by reflecting on successes and failures in his fight to protect the Columbia River Gorge.
