Scope and Contents
In this interview, conducted by Linda S. Dodds on June 30, 1980, Willard H. Walker (born 1897), who worked as a lumber mill foreman in Longview, Washington, shares his experiences climbing Mount St. Helens and hiking around Spirit Lake, beginning in 1924. He talks about logging operations on the mountain, and speaks extensively about wildlife and hunting in the area. He discusses the destruction caused by the eruption, and the possibility of salvaging timber. He closes the interview by talking about the popularity of huckleberry picking and hiking on Mount St. Helens, and about Ole Peterson.
