Scope and Contents
Tape 4, Side 1, through Tape 5, Side 2. In the fourth interview session, conducted on January 8, 2014, Edwards discusses his involvement with IBEW Local 48. He describes his experience as an apprentice electrician, including the companies he worked on projects for, and the training he received. He discusses the difference between the work done by an apprentice and a journeyman electrician, and talks about his work as a journeyman at the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant. He then speaks about working as an electrician in New York, New York, during the 1980s, and about mob-related crime in the city at the time. He also compares IBEW Local 48 in Portland to Local 3 in New York City, and talks about union rules. He discusses how IBEW leadership does not reflect the diversity of its membership, and talks about the benefits the union has secured for its members. He speaks extensively about his work as business manager for Local 48, and about his work recruiting new union members.
