Newspaper and television news images of committee co-chair Marta Güembes and of city council hearings, 2007
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of records of the César E. Chávez Boulevard Committee and press coverage of the committee's efforts to name a street in Portland, Oregon, after César E. Chávez. Records include meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, petitions, and letters of support, as well as records of the City of Portland relating to hearings about proposed street renamings and the city's 2008 resolution to clarify the renaming process. The bulk of press coverage consists of clippings, articles, and issues of newspapers such as the Oregonian and El Hispanic News. Both press coverage and the committee's records include public reaction to the committee's activities in the form of editorials, letters to the editor, correspondence, and collected internet comments. Some correspondence and newspaper articles are in Spanish, and one newspaper issue is in Japanese.
