Biography

Lotus Jean Markham, nee Eddins, was born in Colfax, Washington, in 1922. Her family moved often during her early life, finally settling in Centralia, Washington, around 1932. She attended the local community college, then transferred to the University of Washington in 1941. In 1943, she and William Edwin "Bill" Markham were married; they later had three children. They moved to Riddle, Oregon, in 1947. Bill Markham was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1969, and Jean Markham acted as his principal staff person, first as a secretary and later as a legislative aide. She died in 1998.
