Biography

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 1917. He graduated from Harvard University in 1940 with a bachelor of arts degree in government. He served in the U.S. Navy as a PT Boat commander in Panama and in the Pacific theater from 1941 to 1945. After World War II, he worked briefly as a reporter for Hearst Newspapers. He was a member of the Democratic Party and represented the 11th district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953. In 1952, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and the next year he and Jacqueline "Jackie" Lee Bouvier were married. Kennedy was elected the 35th president of the United States in 1960. He was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.
