Letter, biographical information, certificates, and receipts relating to John C. Bell (1814-1906). Bell emigrated to Oregon in 1850, brought his family to Oregon in 1854, operated a general merchandise store in Salem, Oregon, and was appointed postmaster of Astoria, Oregon, in 1886.
Asahel Bush letters
Correspondence of Asahel Bush (1824-1913), primarily typescript or microfilm copies of letters sent to him. Bush was an early emigrant to Oregon, editor of the Oregon Statesman from 1851 to 1863, and a significant figure in 1850s Oregon Democratic Party politics.
Matthew P. Deady letter in support of Asahel Bush's campaign for U.S. Senate
Letter from Matthew P. Deady (1824-1893) addressed to Isaac Haines (possibly actually Israel D. Haines, 1827-1892), advocating for Asahel Bush (1824-1913) to be elected as a United States senator for Oregon. Deady served on the Oregon Territorial Supreme Court and was a U.S. District Court judge from 1859 until his death.
