Biographical Note
Hurtis Hadley was the owner of the Milwaukie Pastry Kitchen from 1977-1985. It was the first Black-owned bakery in Oregon. In 1967, Hurtis became the first Black Oregonian to graduate from PCC’s Bakers Apprenticeship program. In 1970, Hurtis became the first Black bakery manager in Oregon, and the first Black bakery trainer in Oregon for the Albertsons corporation.
