Hendershott, Herman P. (Herman Phipps), 1913-2007

Biography

Herman Phipps Hendershott was born in Eugene, Oregon, in 1913. He earned a law degree from the University of Oregon in 1936. After passing the Oregon bar, he served as Hood River County district attorney. He returned to Eugene in 1938 to open his own law firm. He and Florence E. Toman were married that same year; they had three children and divorced 10 years later. Hendershott served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, from 1939 to 1945. He was a Republican politician and represented Lane County in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1947 to 1949. In 1949, he and Flora Mae Redwine were married; they later had two children. Hendershott served as Eugene city attorney from 1959 to 1971. He died in 2007.
