Collection consists of addresses to civic groups, 1888-1911, including the Central Municipal League, Associated Charities, the Civic Federation Committee, the Committee of One Hundred, and the Taxpayers League. Also included are letters to editors, 1888-1911.

Collection includes a photostatic reproduction, typescript copy, and microfilm copy of "History of Oregon" by William Strong, derived from a June 20, 1878, interview of Strong by Hubert Howe Bancroft. Also included are papers from the law office of William Strong and Thomas Nelson Strong in Portland, Oregon. William Strong (1817-1887) came to Oregon in 1850; he served as a judge in the Oregon Territory and later as a justice on the supreme courts of Oregon and Washington.
