Marple, Lorna, 1910-1992
Biography
Lorna Marple was Portland based activist, participating in numerous political organizations in Oregon. She was born in 1910 in New Haven, Connecticut and moved to Portland, Oregon in 1939. She served as the president of the NAACP branch in Portland from 1955-1956 and as the chair of the branch Political Action Committee for over 20 years. She served as the executive committeeman for the Democratic Party Central Committee. She also worked with the Council of Churches (1950-1959), the American Red Cross (1943-1946), Portland Public Forum Association (1946-1947), the Oregon State Grange (1947-1959), the Urban League of Portland, and other organizations. She died in 1992 at the age of 82.
