Papers of Samuel A. Clarke (1827-1909) and Harriet T. Clarke (1832-1890), including diaries, correspondence, writings, and genealogical materials. Samuel A. Clarke came to Oregon in 1850, and worked in the newspaper industry. In 1852, he married Harriet Talcott Buckingham, who had come to Oregon in 1851.

Correspondence of Oregon Territorial Governor George L. Curry (1820-1878) relating to the Yakima War and the Rogue River War of 1855-1856. Most of the correspondence, which relates to raising and supplying volunteers or to military orders, consists of drafts or office copies written on Curry's behalf by Benjamin Stark (1820-1898), who acted as Curry's aide-de-camp.

Collection includes a bound stock book, 1865-1878; correspondence between J. W. Nesmith and R. P. Boise, August-September 1866, regarding the mills and Bridesburg Manufacturing Co., Philadelphia; letters to R. P. Boise, Jr., 1914-1941; manuscript copies of correspondence between Nesmith and Bridesburg Manufacturing Co., 1866; and miscellaneous financial records.

Collection includes two typescript term papers by Arthur C. Spencer III: A 1960 paper titled "James W. Nesmith: Oregon Douglas-Union Democrat in the Civil War Period" and a 1966 paper titled "The First Congregational Church, Portland, Oregon."
