This collection consists of photographic copy negatives and copy prints taken by the British North American Boundary Commission along the 49th parallel during two separate survey periods, from 1860-1861 and from 1872-1875.

Collection includes photostat manuscript letters regarding the Hudson's Bay Company and the governance of British Columbia; and photostat manuscript records of imports and exports from British Columbia and Vancouver Island to England. Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873) was Secretary of State for the Colonies.
Edward Ermatinger papers
Photostatic reproductions and typescript copies of letters written to Edward Ermatinger (1797-1876) by Archibald McDonald, John Tod, and William Todd; and photostatic reproductions of Ermatinger's collection of songs sung by French-Canadian fur trappers ("Voyageurs"). Ermatinger was an employee for the Hudson's Bay Company from 1818 to 1828, and later was a postmaster, merchant, and banker in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
The life story of Francis Ermatinger
Typescript term paper titled "The Life Story of Francis Ermatinger," by Elizabeth Katt. Ermatinger, born in Portugal in 1798, joined the Hudson's Bay Company in 1818 and worked in various Pacific Northwest and Canadian locations until his retirement in 1853.

Collection consists of photocopy typescript notes and comments, 51 pages, undated, on fur trade posts in the mid-19th century, including Fort Langley, British Columbia, Fort Walla Walla, Fort Vancouver, and other Hudson's Bay Company posts.
John Work papers
Typescript copies of journals and correspondence of John Work, an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company who explored the Pacific Northwest in the 1820s and 1830s. The materials were collected by Isaac Burpee in the 1940s for use in a publication. Also included are Burpee's research notes and microfilm containing copies of John Work's original journals of 1823-1835 and a transcription made in 1945.
